Approximately nine months ago JetBlue, the leading airline connection between Latin America and the United States for the past 14 years, launched a new route between Fort Lauderdale and Cartagena, the picturesque colonial city on Colombia’s Caribbean coast. Giselle Cortés, director of Blue Cities for JetBlue stated, “JetBlue is pleased to offer our U.S. customers even more travel options by adding the Fort Lauderdale-Cartagena route. Cartagena is less than three hours away from Florida, making it a convenient option for vacationers or travelers who do business in Latin America.” Cortés continued to state, “JetBlue will continue to promote Colombia as a viable destination from the U.S. and strives to offer the best U.S. air service to the country.” This new route, offered daily, will serve as an addition to the pre-existing flight connection between Rafael Nunez Airport in Colombia and John F. Kennedy airport in New York (this flight became active in 2012).
As the whole country of Brazil gears up for next year’s summer games, Olympic game tickets went on sale at the end of March with an estimated 7.5 million tickets being offered to visitors who want to take part in Olympic history. Already, ticket sales are off to a good start, with Brazilian fans having applied for 1.2 million tickets for the Games. So far, the top 10 most sought-after events are artistic gymnastics, swimming, athletics, tennis, beach volleyball, judo and handball.

Targeting TV ads to 460 million people worldwide and selling tools to more than 20,000 wholesalers and travel agents on three continents, the small country of Ecuador, no larger than Colorado, is hoping to make a big impact on both visitor arrivals and investments from big businesses. The Eucadorian Minister of Tourism reported visitors to Ecuador grew by five percent in 2013; by June of this year, arrivals increased by 16 percent, fueling the expectation the country will have hosted some 1.6 million visitors by the end of 2014.
