A Rebirth for Los Cabos

LATIN cabo
Comprised of two towns, Cabo San Lucas and San Jose del Cabo, Los Cabos provides an active adventure or low-key escape based on traveler’s interests. Sandwiched between an expansive desert and the coastlines of the Pacific Ocean and Sea of Cortes, this destination has seen a record number of visitor arrivals for the last three years in a row. And, with a growing number of hotels and one of the highest national occupancy rates, at around 80%, Mexico’s resort destination of Los Cabos is set for another growth spurt.

The region is home to award-winning resorts and culinary offerings, championship golf courses, celebrated spas, and world-renowned sport fishing tournaments. Fully recovered from the devastating Hurricane Odile in 2014, the destination is new and improved and again booming. With over 15,000 current hotel rooms and more to come in the next few years, along with increased flight connectivity, the destination is poised to be Mexico’s leading hot spot in 2017.
Currently, Los Cabos has a collection of over 63 hotels and resorts and has plans to expand its hotel rooms by almost 4,000 in the next 3 years. In 2016, the region welcomed the addition of properties including the JW Marriott Los Cabos Beach Resort & Spa, Le Blanc Spa & Resort, Mar Adentro Resorts & Residences, Grand Velas Los Cabos, and The Hard Rock Hotel, among others. In 2017 the destination will welcome the Nobu Hotel, Ritz Carlton Reserve, Montage and Solaz, part of the Starwood Hotel’s Luxury Collection.

Resort Details
Set to open December 2016, the Chileno Bay Resort & Residences (www.chilenobay.aubergeresorts.com) is a luxury beachfront resort and residential villa community from award-winning hospitality company, Auberge Resorts Collection. Located within the 1,200-acre Chileno Bay development, the resort will feature a 29-room, boutique luxury hotel and 32 contemporary three and four-bedroom beach villas designed to be architecturally contemporary. There’s a 138-meter swimming pool, a wellness spa, fitness center and movement studio, kid’s club, owners lounge, and the h2O Cave, the resort’s waterfront sports center. Additionally, hotel guests and owners have access to Chileno Bay’s newly opened 18-hole championship course designed by Tom Fazio.
Following a $16 million renovation, The ME Cabo (www.melia.com) is better than ever. All rooms, suites and public spaces have been redone to elevate the overall guest experience and cement its place as one of the destination’s most popular resorts. With a total of 162 guest rooms, including 62 ME+ Suites, the resort blends Mexican culture and design with modern resort amenities to create a luxurious beachfront experience.
Debuting last year in June, The Cape (www.thompsonhotels.com),  (a Thompson Hotel, and the brand’s first property in Mexico)  is located along one of the most desirable stretches of white sand in Los Cabos; the world-renowned surfers’ paradise known as Monuments Beach. The luxury hotel features 161 guestrooms, all with unobstructed views of the Sea of Cortez and the destination’s famed icon, The Arch. Guests can enjoy two pools, an infinity pool with swim-up bar and another built within a natural rock formation found on property; an intimate spa and fitness center with private outdoor cabanas for treatments with an ocean view.
Beyond the beach, there are a number of events that draw more and more people to the area each year. The Los Cabos International Film Festival showcases films from Mexico, Canada and the US, and had record attendance in 2015. In December, the Sabor A Cabo is the their international gastronomy and wine festival, welcoming international chefs to promote cuisine from the region.
