Illuminating Israel

Written by

AFRICA IsraelWe asked the team at the Dan Hotels (www.danhotels.com) to share some insights about traveling to the beloved land of Israel. In 1947, The Federmann brothers (two recent immigrants to Israel) purchased the “Kaete Dan”, a 21-room guest house on the Tel Aviv sea shore. Then, in 1953, the “Dan” hotel (i.e. The Dan Tel Aviv) was opened next to senior “Kaete Dan.” The hotel included 120 modern design rooms. Each room had wall-to-wall carpeting, colored bathrooms, telephones and a radio.
Today the Dan Hotels are located all along the Mediterranean from Ashkelon in the south to Haifa in the north. The collection features four hotels in Jerusalem and two in Eilat. All the hotels along the coast are in close proximity to the water - some are even on the beach, such as in Tel Aviv and Herzliya. Here is what the team told us about traveling to Israel.

SOUTH AFRICA’S ZULULAND

Written by

AFRICA SA
In Zululand. a guy just can’t propose to his woman and get married. No, the future groom must give his future bride’s family Labola, a dowry of 11 cows (roughly about US$8,030). He also provides another bovine to roast for the marriage celebration. Besides the cows, the future husband must build a private house for his bride. Know that Zulus can be polygamous, but Labola is the same for every wife. Most of the Zulu men that I meet think it more prudent to stay monogamous.

Belize: A Curious Place

Written by

LATINBelize is located in Central America and is bordered to the north by Mexico, to the south and west by Guatemala and to the east by the Caribbean Sea. Belize is a diverse country with many cultures and languages, known for its extreme biodiversity and distinctive ecosystems. On the coast, there is a swampy coastal plain with mangrove swamps; while the south and interior offer hills and low-lying mountains. All this, along with the longest barrier reef in the Western Hemisphere and the second longest in the world, makes Belize one of the most diverse and exciting countries to send your clients on a fun-filled holiday.
The latest tourism statistics for the first quarter of 2018 indicate that Belize’s popularity as a must-visit destination in Central America continues on an upward swing, as they continue to set unprecedented records. For the first time ever, there were over 55,000 overnight visitors during the month of March, representing an increase of 24.8% over the same period in 2017. Cruise ship arrivals also registered an upward trend during the first quarter. There were 143 cruise ship calls and almost 400,000 cruise passengers arriving in Belize, representing an increase of 4.6% more visitors than 2017.

Pilgrimage Travel

Written by

EUROPE Pilgrimage
It could be argued that leisure travel began with pilgrimages. Long before Medieval pilgrims began making the arduous journey to Rome or Santiago de Compostella, Christians had traveled to the Holy Land. Pilgrimages to the Holy Land began as early as the fourth century, and by the 12th century there were already travel guides listing the important sites in Rome. Christians aren’t the only pilgrims, or the first. The Hajj, for Muslims, dates back to the time of Abraham - about 2000 BC. The earliest reference to Hindu pilgrimages is from 1500 BC.
